Now that another chapter of the SnowBall legacy is a few weeks behind us, it’s time to reflect. This year’s festival was the first one to take place in Winter Park, and it’s safe to say that the Grand Park location was a big step up from Nottingham Park in Avon, where it had been held the previous two years. The layout made more sense, the after-parties were all just a short distance away, and the strategy behind the police presence was much more intelligent. When you add these improvements to yet another amazing lineup in the heart of the majestic, snowy Rockies, you’ve got yourself one fantastic festival experience.
SnowBall has certainly made a name for itself for being one of the more unique festivals out there, and is widely considered the annual kickoff to the music festival season. This year’s star studded lineup featured big names such as Pretty Lights, Big Gigantic, STS9, Kendrick Lamar, Datsik, and Porter Robinson, as well as some killer sets from Krewella, Gigamesh, Grizmatik, and others. The energy, intensity, and enthusiasm that Krewella brought to the Groove Tent on Friday night was rivaled by no other, and the feel-good dance party that Gigamesh threw on Saturday definitely got everyone feeling loose. This year was also the first to feature a Silent Disco, and it appeared to be a popular decision.
The thoughtful folks of SnowBall made a more noticeable effort to cater to the attendees’ needs this year, with plenty of heated space, multiple bars/food carts, and a free and much more effective shuttle system. One downside of the festival was once again the slippery conditions, but when you host a festival in the Rockies in March, it comes with the territory. SnowBall guests got a little bit of everything as far as the weather was concerned, with slightly wet and muddy conditions on Friday, plenty of snow, cold, and ice on Saturday, and a gorgeous, sunny day on Sunday to close out the fest. SnowBall felt right at home in it’s new and hopefully long-time location, and we can’t wait to do it all over again next year.
