In case you’re not familiar, Snowball Music Festival started just three years ago, in the small Vail Valley ski town of Avon. It has since graduated to a new location in a new ski town; Grand Park in Winter Park, CO. With over 67,000 Facebook “likes”, SnowBall has quickly established itself as one of the premier music festivals in the country, and is considered by many to be the kickoff to the music festival season here in the states. Though the fest isn’t limited to electronic acts, they are certainly at the core of it, with such names as Bassnectar, Pretty Lights, Rusko, Major Lazer, Diplo, Porter Robinson, 12th Planet, Zeds Dead, Big Gigantic, Paper Diamond, EOTO, Michal Menert, MiMOSA, Dillion Francis, Gramatik, Beats Antique, and many more highlighting the festival’s first two years.
This year’s slate of electronic artists is certainly no slouch either, with acts such as Pretty Lights, STS9, Big Gigantic, Porter Robinson, Datsik, Grizmatik (GRiZ + Gramatik), and Krewella. And that’s just the EDM headliners. Following in the footsteps of Big Boi and Snoop Dogg last year, is Kendrick Lamar, who will be holding it down this year on the festival’s hip hop side of things. SnowBall has also featured plenty of talent in the rock/indie/live band spectrum over the last two years, with artists such as Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeroes, Lotus, The Flaming Lips, Portugal. The Man, TV On The Radio, Ghostland Observatory, and Trampled By Turtles drawing large crowds. This year’s festival once again features Portugal. The Man, as well as notables JAPANDROIDS, Poliça, and Robert Randolph & The Family Band.
So rest up, pack plenty of warm clothes, and get ready to party. 2013 is sure to be yet another unforgettable chapter in the SnowBall legacy.
