Time flies when you’re having fun. These last two weekends at Temple Denver have flown right by, seconds on the dancefloor tumbling effortlessly into hours, and hours into mornings. Now we sit on the cusp of Temple Nightclub’s third weekend in Denver. Blasterjaxx, Showtek, Nervo and MAKJ have all come and gone, leaving a trail of good memories and long nights in their wake. For its third weekend, Temple continues to bring that fiyah. The Dirty Dutch Daddy (aka Chuckie) hits the decks on Friday night, followed by Morten on Saturday.
Do not mistake Chuckie for his evil doll counterpart. The only thing DJ Chuckie is killing is dat beat. Growing up in the South American city of Paramaribo, Clyde Narain got his feet wet behind the DJ booth playing events for friends and slowing moving up to the club level. This started in 1993, likely before many of you were even born. Paramaribo is the capital city of Suriname, a former Dutch colony. No doubt the Dutch presence in Paramaribo had an influence on Chuckie’s sound and style.
He has since grown to international superstardom, playing clubs and festivals around the world with high energy live sets jumping from genre to genre. Chuckie leads Dirty Dutch Records, releasing a steady stream of amazing records and hosting a weekly radio show showcasing both the hottest music of the moment and reinvigorating the classics. Shut off your music right now and play some Chuckie. Maybe his radio show. Maybe his EP with GLOWINTHEDARK. Or how about his Dirty Dutch Propaganda compilation album. I don’t care, just get those speakers blasting till you piss off the neighbors.
Next up comes Morten, the Danish purveyor of dank beats. He has this quote that reads as follows, “If music be the food of love, play on.” I have no idea what that even means, but I like it. If you know, please clue me in. Either way, Morten is a force to be reckoned with. He started his journey as a DJ at age 14, climbing his way up to the professional level by age 19. Pretty cool if you ask me. He has since moved to Los Angeles, taken up Thai kickboxing and continued to make the music which allows him to travel the world.
His latest track, Ride Around, is a guitar infused, feel good, summer-type song with beautiful vocals by Connor Darvid. On the flip side, he has tracks like Hypnotized, a trap banger which almost prompted me to headbang a whole into my wall. If you want to Morten him up on snapchat (which I have already done profusely), you can reach him at BoomBoomBreezy.
