Who said festival season was over? Although summer has come to an end and winter is soon upon us, there are still plenty of opportunities to extend festy season until the end of 2017. We came up with 5 of our favorite festivals that you can still make it out to before the end of the year!
5) Desert Daze – Joshua Tree, CA (10/12 – 10/15)
Retreat to Joshua Tree next weekend for the psychedelic indie experience of a lifetime. Desert Daze recently came on my radar and really blew me away with its unique art installations and profound lineup. Although many artists at this festival are less to me, and it is certainly not focused on electronic music, the vibe it propagates is one of community. Music is only one element of festival culture, so get out there and expand your horizons. This one is next weekend, so you may want to start packing now.
4) Suwannee Hulaween – Live Oak, FL (10/27 – 10/29)
I have only heard amazing things about Suwannee Hulaween. It has been described to me as a similar event to Electric Forest in terms of community, ambiance, and musical style. Of course, it is also brought to us by the infamous String Cheese Incident, who incidentally will be playing all three nights. Featuring other artists like Bassnectar, Run The Jewels and Ween, the lineup really covers all the bases. Did I mention this is a Halloween festival? Hopefully I didn’t need to because the name should clue you in, but get dressed up in your cookiest and craziest outfits and dance your face off. I think its about time for me to find out what this festival is all about for myself.
3) EDC Orlando – Orlando, FL (11/10 – 11/11)
Insomniac events shows no signs of slowing down, consistently putting out killer events throughout the year. From the epic introduction of Middlelands to the recent announcement of camping at EDC Las Vegas, it’s full steam ahead. EDC Orlando is no different, brining that Dusk Till Dawn attitude to the sunshine state. Expect top level production and sound accompanied by some of the hottest names in electronic music. From the trance behemoth Armin Van Buuren, to UK dubstep turned house DJ Skream, to an intriguing Diplo B2B A-Trak set, i am really looking forward to absorbing all that EDC Orlando has to offer.
2) Island of Light – Puerto Rico (12/07 – 12/10)
Pretty Lights is on a roll. Touring the country from episode to episode, Derek has really been changing the landscape of what it means to create and perform electronic music. From his awe inspiring Red Rocks performances to his jaw dropping sets at the Gorge, each of his episodes are being streamed live on YouTube so that his dedicated fanbase can witness every moment. Taking his touring to the next level, he introduced the Island of Light, his own multi-day festival taking place this December in Puerto Rico. For PL fans, this is an experience you will be remiss to sit out. Featuring support from acts like Gramatik, Ganja White Night and Manic Focus, this event is highly curated by the Pretty Lights team to ensure an unforgettable experience.
1) Decadence – Denver, CO (12/30 – 12/31)
How could I make this list without including our very own Decadence NYE. What better way to close out the new year than with all your best friends in our home of Colorado. Year after year, Decadence continues to evolve as one of the country’s premiere festivals. Put together by the powerhouse team of Global Dance, AEG and Live Nation, the lineup exceeds all expectations. From Bassnectar to Diplo to Odesza to Porter Robinson, the phase one lineup consisted of headliners from top to bottom. So start planning for New Years right now, because 2018 will be upon us before we know it and the only way I can imagine ringing in the new year is with all of you beautiful people.
