Having to pick my five favorite shows in Colorado during 4/20 week is like having to pick ones favorite child. The one who talks the least, duh. Seriously though, there are a stupid amount of shows this week taking place in clubs, theaters, and auditoriums and ranging from live bands to house DJs to dubstep producers. Make sure you scroll all the way down to check the honorable mentions cause they could have just as easily made my top 5, but I’ll try my best to justify my reasoning for picking who I did below.
List compiled by E.P Pirt, Jr.
5. Paper Diamond, Falcons, & more at Beta Nightclub (Thursday)
Simply put, Paper Diamond has roots in Colorado and hasn’t toured in 16 months. I’m also a fan of Falcons and have always thought that he’s flown (pun intended) under the radar and doesn’t get enough credit for his production.
4. Break Science at the Gothic Theatre (Thursday)
I was close to designating this one as an honorable mention given that they frequently play CO, especially recently. But alas, none of their recent CO shows have been as Break Science in Denver (they’ve each made solo appearances here, recently, though), and every time BS plays in the 303 it is a special occasion. The Gothic should make for a perfect backdrop for the Pretty Lights Music duo, as it’s intimate, but not too small.
3. Hot Since 82 at Beta Nightclub (Sunday)
I’ll admit I’m a little biased on this one. Hot Since 82 has been on my radar for years, however I’ve only just recently really been getting into him. There’s something about the deep, dark, and industrial, yet smooth and almost catchy vibe to his tracks that’s been hitting the spot for me recently. Gonna be quite the cherry on top to finish out one hell of a week for Colorado electronic music.
2. Tale of Us at Club Vinyl (Saturday)
Tale of Us have carved out their legacy over the years, developing into one of house and techno’s most respected, adored, and sought after acts. The North American born-but-Italian raised duo has built a very strong reputation for their live sets, the lore of which is only increased by the fact that they do not happen frequently. Seeing Tale of Us anywhere is a treat, let alone in Colorado.
1. Sasha Warehouse Experience – Location TBA (Saturday)
If Tale of Us shows are hard to come by, then seeing a Sasha set recently, at least in the US, has been nearly impossible. And if you didn’t get at ticket to this Saturday’s show yet then unfortunately for you, it probably is impossible since it’s sold out already. Sasha’s resumé is stout. He is a four-time International Dance Music Awards winner and four-time DJ Awards winner. While his sound can’t be pigeon-holed into one genre, he is mainly known for house, progressive house, progressive trance, and acid house. Starting in the late 80s, Sasha has been a household name for generations of dance music lovers.
