Sonic Bloom, Colorado’s purest grassroots electronic festivals, is just under a month away and with the fast approaching opening day, we thought we’d take a look at the lineup and let you know what artists we think are the must see’s of this year!
5. Barclay Crenshaw
The alter-ego (and real name) of house legend Claude VonStroke, Barclay Crenshaw is known for his hip-hop influence and unique rhythm that often combines both downtempo beats with fast paced lyrics. He will be playing as both VonStroke and Crenshaw this year at Sonic Bloom, but we think that this special set from one of dance music’s greatest is definitely something that shouldn’t be skipped.
A regular feature here on ELCO, SoDown is one of our favorite artists for a reason. The young producer/DJ out of Boulder, Colorado has been releasing groovy tracks for some time now, and with the release of his recent(ish) EP titled A Different Path, we are excited to see what he brings to Sonic Bloom this time. If it’s anything like last year’s, you will not want to miss it.
This artist is no stranger to Colorado festivals and events having played with Bassnectar at Red Rocks, and this year Joker is bringing his signature sounds to the Sonic Bloom stage for the first time. His massive hit remix of Nectar’s Midnight is sure to be a crowd favorite and we think if you haven’t experienced a Joker set before this is definitely an amazing opportunity to check him out!
If you’re a fan of artists like Madeon, Porter Robinson, or Kill Paris, then you’re sure to fall in love with Minnesota as soon as he takes the stage this year at Sonic Bloom. Having described his music as “chimecore”, this non-Minnesota native produces some of the most upbeat music we’ve ever heard and it is sure to get the crowd dancing at this year’s festival. His shows are full of energy and if you want to witness a truly unique set, we highly recommend you check out this bass artist when he comes to Colorado next month.
1. Gigantic Cheese Biscuits
No, this is not the delicious treat from Red Lobster, but Gigantic Cheese Biscuits is one of the most stacked super-groups ever to be formed. Featuring the combined talents of Dominic Lalli and Jeremy Salken of Big Gigantic with Michael Kang, Michael Travis, and Jason Hann of The String Cheese Incident/EOTO, and Marc Brownstein & Aron Magner of The Disco Biscuits, this is going to get wild. With no released music yet, we really have no idea what we are in for, but with this amount of talent set to be on one stage at the same time, we really would like to emphasize that if you’re planning to skip this set you are delusional. We can’t wait to see what these masters of music bring to Sonic Bloom this year and will be like kids on Christmas when the first note is played.
